About Indianapolis Colts |
| |
The original Baltimore Colts came into existence as the Miami Seahawks of the AAFC. The team went bankrupt in the fall of 1946 and was purchased by a group led by Bob Rodenberg and was moved to Baltimore, Maryland.
With the merger of the NFL in 1950 and after posting two consecutive 1-11 seasons, the league dissolved the franchise. After a brief stint by the Dallas Texans the Colts franchise was reinstated in 1953 and stayed in Baltimore until 1983 where under the cover of darkness the team relocated to Indianapolis to play in the brand new 57,980 seat Hoosier Dome. The team has remained in Indianapolis since.
The franchise has won three NFL Championships (1958, 1959, 1968) and two Super Bowl Championships (1970, 2006) and have brought home six Conference Championships and twelve Division Championships. They have appeared in the playoffs 22 out of 57 season.
